"Abandoned Luncheonette" Pizza World
What is it that I find so intriguing about an abandoned pizza shop? There's no real historical value. It's not located in the heart of a large city, in fact it's in a rather remote location. What I find so fascinating is it's modern architectural style. The bright red diamond shaped roof set off with the overgrowth of weeds and trees makes for an interesting contrast.
In this day and age where every business that goes belly up, gets destroyed, and is quickly replaced with a franchise it's a rarity to see an abandoned gem like Pizza World still standing.

I agree...love these abandoned places!
Though I live in southeast MI, I have visited the Pizza World site five times now. The first was in 2003, when the founder was still alive. Even though it was no longer open, he no longer technically owned it, and he was in his 80s, he would still stop by there and keep the bushes, shrubs, weeds and trash from getting completely out of control. It is amazing how overgrown the site has gotten just since 2007, when he passed on. Sadly (for people like me), the fence was erected last year. Before that, you could waltz right up and peek in the windows. The owner's youngest daughter suspects that there might still be some Rosedale Diner/Abandoned Luncheonette memorabilia in the basement...her Dad really liked to hold on to things.
Thank you for sustaining this blog, and particularly for the Pizza World and Abandoned Luncheonette posts. While my body is in Michigan, my heart is in southeast Pennsylvania each day. It's great to have this little connection.
I can't believe there is someone else out there who shares my strange obsession with the abandoned Pizza World building...I'm both amused and disillusioned at the same time...I thought I was the only one.
Well, just to be completely accurate, my strange obsession is with "Abandoned Luncheonette". Since Pizza World was owned by the same gentleman, it falls under the umbrella of my Abandoned Luncheonette obsession...I guess you could call it an obsession "subfolder". ;)
I don't know much about Blogspot, but if there is some way for us to exchange info privately without being besieged by spammers, that would be cool. The owner's daughter gave me a Pizza World iron-on transfer. I plan on taking it to my local printer so they can actually digitize the design onto a shirt for me. Once that's done, the iron-on is yours, if you want it. She also gave me a Pizza World keychain, which is totally cool, but unfortunately, she thinks it was the last one left.
Can someone please tell me who I would be able to contact in regards to who owns the property of "Pizza World". would be greatly appreaciated
